Five tools · five different strengths

The best love compatibility calculators.
Compared by what they actually do.

No calculator can establish whether a relationship will work. The useful question is narrower: which tool clearly calculates the kind of astrological comparison you want, without hiding its inputs or overstating the result?

The most detailed result is not automatically the most useful one; start with the question you want the tool to explore.

Quick answer: Choose Astrunara for a simple, transparent Sun-sign comparison; Astro-Seek for technical chart detail; Astro.com for an interactive partner chart; Cafe Astrology for long-form written interpretation; and Astrolis for an approachable two-person birth-data form.

How we compared the calculators

We reviewed each tool’s public entry flow, required inputs, explanation of its method or chart features, treatment of an unknown birth time, visible free-versus-paid boundary and privacy information available from the tool. We did not buy premium reports. Astrunara is included because this is our own comparison, so we identify its narrower scope instead of presenting it as an independent winner.

  • Scope: does it compare Sun signs, selected placements or two complete birth charts?
  • Input clarity: does it explain why date, local time and birthplace are requested?
  • Interpretation: does it show how the result was produced, or only present a score?
  • Unknown times: are Rising signs, houses and other uncertain details omitted or clearly qualified?
  • Restraint: does the result avoid turning symbolic compatibility into a prediction about relationship success?

1. Astrunara — best for a quick, transparent starting point

Astrunara begins with two Sun signs and gives an editorial score plus questions about connection, differences and communication. Its scoring rules are published: element pairings provide the starting value, modalities adjust it and matching signs receive a small adjustment.

The optional layer calculates Sun, Moon and an approximate Rising sign from dates, recorded local times and supported birth cities. Those details are processed in the browser and are not added to a share link. It is deliberately not called full synastry because it does not calculate every planetary aspect or house overlay.

Choose it when: you want a fast, readable reflection and want to understand where the number came from. Skip it when: you need a complete aspect grid or a full two-chart wheel.

2. Astro-Seek — best for technical chart detail

Astro-Seek has a large collection of chart tools, including synastry, composite and Davison options alongside individual aspect interpretations. That breadth makes it useful when you already understand chart vocabulary and want to inspect placements and contacts rather than receive one simplified verdict.

The tradeoff is density. A beginner may need to learn what conjunctions, squares, trines, houses and orbs mean before the output becomes useful.

Choose it when: you want to examine chart mechanics. Skip it when: you mainly want a short plain-English starting point.

3. Astro.com — best for interactive exploration

Astrodienst’s AstroClick Partner is built around an interactive partner horoscope. After birth data has been added, chart features can be selected to reveal interpretations. That makes it better suited to exploration than to producing a single compatibility percentage.

Its strength is the connection between a visual chart and established interpretation material. Its workflow can feel less immediate than a one-page calculator because people and charts are managed before the partner view is opened.

Choose it when: you prefer clicking through a chart and reading individual contacts. Skip it when: you want an instant two-sign answer.

4. Cafe Astrology — best for long-form written interpretation

Cafe Astrology offers compatibility calculations with known birth times and a separate route for unknown times. Its wider synastry library explains weighted compatibility factors, house overlays and many individual chart contacts.

The amount of text is valuable for learning, but it can take time to separate the most relevant contacts from the complete report. The workflow also asks you to create or save a chart before comparing it with another person.

Choose it when: you want to read deeply and learn the terminology. Skip it when: you want a short, highly visual result.

5. Astrolis — best for an approachable full-data form

Astrolis places both people’s birth details in a straightforward compatibility form and includes an explicit unknown-time option. Its explanation notes the consequences of a missing time for the Ascendant, houses, Moon ambiguity and precise angles.

That guidance is useful because it prevents a polished result from hiding uncertain inputs. As with any external service, check the current privacy terms and the boundary between free and paid content before entering personal birth details.

Choose it when: you want to start with full birth data without navigating a technical tool directory. Skip it when: you do not want to enter names or birth details into an external service.

Sun-sign compatibility or full synastry?

A Sun-sign calculator answers a deliberately limited question using one placement for each person. A synastry calculator compares two birth charts and may include planets, angles, aspects and house overlays. The second calculation contains more astrological detail, but more detail is not the same thing as scientific validation.

Use the smallest tool that answers your question. Start with two signs for a light reflection. Move to the synastry calculator only when you want to examine chart contacts and have accurate birth data—or when the tool clearly explains what it omits.

What no love compatibility calculator can measure

A chart does not observe whether two people listen, repair harm, respect boundaries, share responsibility or want the same kind of relationship. A high score cannot excuse poor treatment, and a low score cannot erase a healthy connection. If a result does not fit your experience, leave it rather than forcing your relationship into the description.

Questions, answered

What is the best free love compatibility calculator?

It depends on the question. Astrunara is a clear starting point for two Sun signs, while Astro-Seek, Astro.com, Cafe Astrology and Astrolis offer different levels of birth-chart detail. Choose the tool whose inputs and method match the result you want.

Is a synastry calculator more accurate than a zodiac compatibility calculator?

A synastry calculator can calculate more chart positions and aspects, but additional detail does not prove that astrology predicts relationship outcomes. It gives a more detailed astrological interpretation, not a scientifically validated relationship forecast.

Do I need an exact birth time?

Not for a Sun-sign comparison. Exact local birth time and place matter for the Ascendant, houses and some time-sensitive placements. A responsible tool should show what becomes uncertain when a birth time is missing.

Can a compatibility score tell whether a relationship will last?

No. A score cannot measure trust, respect, communication, shared values or how two people behave. Treat it as a prompt for reflection rather than a probability of success.
