Sun vs Moon vs Rising sign: what’s the difference?
Your Sun sign describes the Sun’s zodiac position at birth, your Moon sign the Moon’s position, and your Rising sign the zodiac’s eastern-horizon intersection. Astrologers interpret these as different themes. The positions can be calculated astronomically; the personality meanings are interpretations.

What does each placement describe?
The table separates what is being calculated from how it is commonly interpreted. These should not be confused: computing a position accurately does not validate a claim about someone’s character.

Why is an accurate birth time important?
The horizon changes as Earth turns. That makes a Rising result sensitive to time and location. A guessed time can put the Ascendant in another sign, especially near a boundary. The Moon can also change sign during a birthday, so noon is not a reliable substitute for an unknown time.
What does Astrunara actually calculate?
We calculate tropical Sun and geocentric Moon positions with Astronomy Engine. An approximate Ascendant comes from local sidereal time, latitude and obliquity. The city’s historical time zone is applied before the positions are calculated. Nonexistent or ambiguous local times during clock changes are rejected rather than guessed.
Results are a focused placement comparison, not a complete synastry analysis. We do not compute every planetary aspect, house overlay or predictive technique. Our methodology explains the separate Sun-sign scoring model.
What if I do not know my time or cannot find my city?
Use the basic Sun-sign reading and leave the optional fields empty. The current deeper tool needs both people’s recorded time and a supported city. Do not select a nearby city or invent a time just to produce a result that looks more precise.
Questions, answered
Can my Sun, Moon and Rising signs all be the same?
Yes. They are different positions and may fall in the same sign at a particular time and place. That does not make a person a more authentic example of that sign.
Do you save birth details?
No. Our own calculator computes these placements in the browser without saving or sending the entered dates, times or cities. External providers have separate policies.
