What can you calculate without your birth time?
Without a birth time, you can often establish your Sun sign, but a birthday near a sign change needs more information. A Moon sign may be narrowed down by checking its possible positions across the day. You cannot reliably assign a personal Rising sign or houses from a date alone.
You can still begin with the free Sun-sign finder. Leave “I know my birth time and place” unchecked when the time is unknown. A result with two possibilities is useful information about the limit of the lookup.
What can a date-only chart tell you?

These distinctions concern calculated positions. The themes astrologers attach to them are interpretations, as explained in Sun, Moon and Rising signs.
A worked Sun-sign example: one date, two possible answers
Our date-only finder checks a conservative range covering possible birth times across world time zones. It does not quietly assume noon. The following illustrative inputs were checked with Astrunara’s calculation:

Changing an assumed time changes the question you ask the calculator; it does not identify your actual birth time. A two-sign result also does not mean that the Sun occupied both signs at once. Read the date-boundary explanation before choosing a sign from a calendar.
Can you find your Moon sign without a birth time?
Sometimes. If the Moon remains in one sign throughout the possible birth interval, that sign can be established within the chosen zodiac system. If it changes sign during the interval, the unknown time matters. A single noon calculation does not show whether that happened.
Use a tool or ephemeris that explicitly checks the range for the local date and relevant time zone. Astrunara currently asks for a birth time in its optional Moon/Rising comparison, so it cannot resolve this range for you. Do not enter an invented time just to unlock that section.
Why can’t a date alone give a reliable Rising sign?
The Ascendant is tied to the eastern horizon at a particular time and place. As Earth turns, that horizon changes. An attractive chart wheel drawn for a default time can display a Rising sign and houses, but they belong to the assumption used to draw it.
An approximate time may narrow the possibilities; it does not guarantee a single answer. Keep the time range explicit. Our calculator accepts one recorded local time and does not perform a range analysis or birth-time rectification.
How can you look for a recorded birth time?
- Look for records made around the birth. A birth or hospital record may include a time, but availability and contents vary by place.
- Compare family records with later recollections. “Around breakfast” is a clue, not an exact minute. Label estimates as estimates.
- Preserve the original local time. Note the birthplace and date as recorded. Avoid converting the time using today’s offset before entering it into a tool that expects local time.
If a record cannot be found, leaving time-dependent placements unknown is a valid stopping point. A personality description that feels right does not verify the clock time.

Can I use 12:00 if I do not know my birth time?
Only as an explicitly labelled assumption for a limited calculation. It does not establish your actual Rising sign, houses or a placement near a sign boundary. Use a date-only mode when available.
Does knowing my birthplace solve a missing birth time?
It identifies location and helps establish the local date’s time zone, but it does not tell you which instant within that date was your birth.
Can I still use the compatibility calculator?
Yes, the basic reading uses two Sun signs. Confirm them first when possible. If your Sun sign remains uncertain, trying both possibilities is exploration, not a way to establish which one is correct.
